A dump truck driver from New Jersey has been arrested and charged with fleeing
a car accident that caused a woman's death. The arrest was in relation to a fatal
truck accident that took place in Manhattan. According to police, the
crash took place at 10 a.m. on Feb. 5 and occurred when the man was making
a right turn onto West 41st Street.
The 69-year-old Manhattan woman who was hit was taken to an emergency room but was pronounced dead at the hospital.
It is extremely important for truckers and truck companies to follow regulations and traffic laws because when someone is involved in a truck or commercial vehicle accident, injuries are often very extensive or even fatal, as in this tragic case. When people who have been involved in these types of collisions do survive, they often need long-term medical care. In instances where an accident does result in a fatality, family members may need substantial financial support as well as emotional support.
After such an accident, not only do families experience emotional anguish, but also quite often the unexpected burden of funeral expenses and a lost source of income.
When truck accidents are caused by negligence on the part of a truck driver or a company associated with the driver, it is often possible to seek compensation for such expenses. Truck accidents are sometimes caused by driver fatigue, faulty equipment or an improperly loaded freight truck, and it is important that truck companies are held accountable when this is the case. This is often possible with a personal injury lawsuit.
